Sang Cermin (The Mirror)

Kami saling melempar tatapan.

Sang cermin menatapku balik.

Bukankah ia hanya pandai meniru?

Lalu apa yang sebenarnya ia tertawakan?

Apa yang ia sanjung?

Betapa nahasnya sang cermin. Namun betapa kejamnya ia.

The Mirror

(English Version)

We stared at one another.

The mirror stared back.

It seemed to whisper that I should be as beautiful as it was.

Then it laughed, with a smile that felt more like mockery.

It peeled away every worn-out layer of who I was.

The mirror, it turned out, was never as familiar as I believed.

Nor was it as kind.

Sometimes, it mocked me.

Sometimes, it praised me.

I cannot tell what it is trying to say through a face that is not truly its own.

After all, a mirror does nothing but imitate.

So what is it laughing at?

What is it admiring?

How unfortunate the mirror must be.

And yet... how cruel.

Perhaps I should ask myself again.

How much of me is merely a reflection?

I hope the mirror shatters.

But before it does, I hope it reflects something beautiful.
